The first thing you notice is the salt. The stinging sensation fills your nostrils so suddenly that it shoots through the back of your skull and you wince from the pain, the whole world spinning out of control in the black space behind your eyes. A moment passes; the pain subsides. You open your eyes and you see… the sky? You’re lying on your back in the sand, staring at the wisps of dreamlike clouds above. You stand and see a narrow beach and a vast sea. The vivid red and black fury of a tempest looms along the horizon like a slumbering black dragon. The sun is low; there isn’t much time before the darkness comes.
