She draws the string of her bow with a creak as its supple fibers stretch. Tendrils of green and purple magic twine down her arm, surging into the hand that holds the arrow steady. Through gritted teeth she growls, “Don’t miss,” and releases the arrow. It whistles toward the target and, just before impact, bursts into a tangle of vines. They slap against the quarry, wrapping around them in a cocoon of green sinew and thorns. From the ground, another form rises—a genie with a magnificent grin. He appraises the fallen enemy with a wiggle of his brow. As he moves, crumbs of dark soil fall from his purely slate body. “Miss? This weakling?” He chuckles, sounding like rocks tumbling down a mountain.
