About dScryb

What is dScryb?

dScryb is an award-winning resource that provides Boxed Text—descriptions of places, monsters, spells, items, characters, and other observations—meant to be read aloud by GMs to players. It is set in the world of epic fantasy, like many of your favorite RPGs. Great boxed text shows its subject by describing the sensory experience. And, it often sets the narrative tone, introduces the scene, and spotlights what may be important.

Let dScryb’s award-winning writers and editors pore over every word of descriptive text, freeing your creative energy and time for all the other aspects of planning and running the perfect adventure.

We are based in an ethereal plane that, by a strange quirk of multidimensional alignment, corresponds with Toronto, Canada—a city whose residents proudly proclaim, “Diversity Our Strength.” Despite this whimsical origin, dScryb’s scenes are entirely self-contained: there are no recurring characters, story arcs, or overarching plotlines. Each boxed text piece—whether describing a treacherous mountain pass, a fearsome monster, or a spell ripping through the battlefield—stands alone, ready to enrich your campaign without imposing narrative decisions.

Is dScryb a location or encounter “generator” or “randomizer”?

No. dScryb scenes do not dictate quests, mark an NPC as essential, or otherwise determine your campaign’s story. Instead, they enhance the “theatre of the mind” experience by providing exquisitely crafted fantasy writing. Whether your players are nervously crossing an ancient rope bridge, hearing the pounding hooves of a charging centaur, witnessing a powerful spell tear across the battlefield, or exploring countless other epic scenarios, you choose the context—dScryb simply brings it vividly to life.
