The walls of this chamber seem to be made of massive, curved glass sections fixed within similarly curving stanchions of coral. Outside, small sea creatures go about their existences, oblivious to the unmistakable aroma of scented seaweed candles and the soft glow of multicolored fluorescent algae in lamp bowls. The glass walls provide a welcome contrast to the almost claustrophobic effect provided by the sheer volume of shelving that dominates the interior, confronting you with thousands of books. The rows of shelves—separated by narrow walkways—are crafted from kiln-dried sand and adorned with seashells of all shapes and sizes.
