Murmuring in a voice as smooth and fine as silk, the man casts an incantation. A mantle, dark and diaphanous as a shadow, drapes over his scalemail armor—the only light about him the silver glint on the blade of a longsword. His whispers break beyond the reaches of normal sound and become a thing, an invader of the mind. The words are delayed and dissonant from the movements of his lips. The longsword becomes cloaked in the purple shade of twilight and another voice—gravelly, powerful, commanding—joins the chant. He flicks the longsword up and lunges forward. A sound like a thunderclap tears through the air as the enchanted weapon arcs toward his foe.
