Fires crackle within the forge. A shovel scrapes into a pile of coal then tosses the chunks into the kiln. Bellows are pressed and expanded every so often, exhaling into the fire, feeding the flame. Then, the true tinkering begins. Metal is hammered to shape with plinks and clangs, and eventually dipped into hissing, steaming water. Someone passes a whetstone over a finished blade, sharpening dulled edges to renew their bite.
