The largest geyser sprays a roaring, steaming flare of water and minerals skyward, until it is spent and splashes on the hard, fissured ground. Other smaller spouts erupt, then only birdsong and the bubbling of the basin pools can be heard. After a lull, the very land huffs as if it were a large beast, and the geysers fire again, steam billowing off of their lethal fountains, boiling water splashing down through the mist and into the churning pools.
