The old wooden floor squeaks weakly with each step. The rafters, high above, and the walls eke out their own pained sounds as you breach this space not meant for you. You hear other things: hushed whispers, tinged with anger; a child’s mirthful laugh; a shriek. A wind akin to a death rattle floats through the home like a specter, swinging open old doors.
