The mellifluous music common to the halls is barely audible, drowned out by the complaint of a great wind. It howls into the place as if into a length of frozen pipe, creaking and rattling the metal parts of the castle as it speeds along the ice and whirls, puffing like a giant’s breath, in the chambers.
