After an opening sforzando note, a lute plucks at a walking pace, playing occasional chords, until the orchestra joins with long swelling chords every few measures. It reaches its greatest intensity at the middle of the sequence, entering and exiting the piece until the lute and other strings reset the staccato notes of the beginning, like the sun setting on a late autumn day.
