The sea laps against the shore, lackadaisical. Birds ululate from the trees as a group of rough-and-tumble pirates speak in harsh tones to one another. There is still friendliness to be found: a hearty, unfaithful laugh rings out over the beach. An axe sinks into a piece of wood over and over in a slow rhythm, weapons are sharpened over a grindstone, and a hammer plinks nails into place.
