A touch of bassoon plays under the gloom of minor chords from menacing strings and magical bells, as if clouds were dancing toward one another to darken the sky. Violins speak, a timpani drum rolls, then a conversation takes place among the strings, deep and ominous. It ends with a quiet lift, as if the threat has passed.
