Bassoon and bells play under the swell of deep orchestral chords, minor and dark. The bells play against the threatening horns and strings. A solo violin cries through the rise and fall of voluminous walls of sound. A timpani rolls, and the strings converse with one another. Cellos drive the exchange until it quiets and begins again.
